I believe strongly in the future of British craftsmanship which I hope, is apparent in our furniture.  In order to determine future standards in our own carefully crafted pieces, I am committed to bringing our own upholsters up to exacting standards.

When I say exacting standards I refer to their ability to craft or restore the finest Chesterfield furniture available anywhere in the world.

To achieve this they must be comfortable working with only a hammer and nail to carry out the crafting process.  At no time will we adopt the staple gun during the "finishing school" period.

They must also be very competent at hand dying and working with loose hair to fill each piece.

Matthew is now at this standard.  After several years working with us, he has achieved something which few can boast.

Below you can see him looking very cheerful (he does take his upholstery very seriously!!) with his first fully completed 19thC armchair which has been carefully restored in the above manner.

He has also carried out the hand dying process using a beautiful product which is made from Walnut husk.  This is a historic method of dying and a wonderful organic product.
